Irrigation and Civil Supplies Minister Capt. N. Uttam Kumar Reddy cautioned citizens against the BJP’s divisive strategies, accusing the ruling party of inciting communal tensions between Hindus and Muslims. Speaking at the 34th anniversary of the Rajiv Gandhi Sadbhavana Yatra at the historic Charminar on Saturday, he credited the Gandhi family for their sacrifices in preserving the nation’s unity and integrity. While he claimed the BJP has consistently sought to sow division along communal lines, he highlighted the efforts of the Gandhi family in promoting peace, unity, and brotherhood.

Reddy emphasized that it was Rajiv Gandhi who launched the Sadbhavana Yatra 34 years ago to counter the BJP’s communal agenda, and similarly, Rahul Gandhi initiated the Bharat Jodo Yatra to strengthen national unity. He praised the contributions of the Nehru-Gandhi family, noting how Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi made the ultimate sacrifice for national unity, and how Sonia Gandhi selflessly stepped aside from the opportunity to become Prime Minister during the UPA regime. He also acknowledged Sonia Gandhi’s crucial role in the formation of Telangana, calling it a significant political sacrifice that came at the risk of Congress losing power in Andhra Pradesh.

Reddy urged the public to be vigilant against any attempts to create communal divides, stressing the need to remain wary of parties that seek to exploit religious differences. He called on Congress party workers to stay committed to the mission of unity and communal harmony that was championed by Rajiv Gandhi through the Sadbhavana Yatra.
