The Congress party has realized that to strengthen itself and move away from old political strategies, it needs strong regional leaders. This is evident in the case of ‘Revanth Reddy’, who has emerged as a prominent political figure in Telangana and is being given a free hand by the high command. While Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Yatra has given momentum to the party, the high command seems to have recognized that creating new power centers can weaken the party’s strength.
This approach is reminiscent of the strategy used with Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, who, with the freehand given to him by the Congress leadership, led the party to power in Andhra Pradesh through his famous padayatra, energizing party workers and winning elections twice. Similarly, Revanth Reddy, through his vigorous campaigning in the recent elections, played a significant role in bringing the Congress into power.
In earlier times, the Congress would have created an alternative power center to balance a strong leader, but in recent developments, the party has made a decision in favor of Revanth Reddy by appointing someone like ‘Mahesh Kumar Goud’ as the PCC President, thereby showing its support for Chief Minister Revanth Reddy. This suggests that the high command has learned from the mistakes made in the case of Jaganmohan Reddy and is now more cautious in handling strong regional leaders. The high command’s positive stance towards Revanth Reddy’s “Hydra-like”demolition mission is further evidence of this strategic shift. Prakash Surya
