Released in 1987, the film starred Smita Patil, Naseeruddin Shah, Om Puri, and directed by Kethan Mehta. Coming to the story, “A beautiful and intelligent lady” Sona Bhai “catches the eye of the Subedar of the village, who somehow manages to get Sona Bhai and takes the village in iron fist . Sona Bhai takes shelter in a mirch godown and is supported by the people of the village and a man named Abu Bhai. Abubai dies in the battle. Sona Bhai gathers the people of the village and chases the Subedar. If man’s attempt to subdue a woman, it is the woman’s act of oppression to liberate her from bondage. We want complete freedom for women in this society. Even for those women who believe that they are living in complete happiness, and absolute freedom. ‘Mirch Masala’ shows the plight of the women of the marginalized section blindfolded. A woman resisted the dominance of the beasts and hoisted the sign of victory. Smita Patil played the role of Sona Bhai in the film. A mature woman’s struggle from tension, from the beast, from the wounds of domination.
