Tollywood, known for its grandeur and high actor remunerations, operates in a way where being at the top isn’t always valued. Despite Director S.S. Rajamouli elevating Tollywood to a global stage, particularly with his iconic ‘Baahubali’, the industry has yet to officially honor him. ‘Baahubali’ not only brought prestige to Telugu cinema within India but also on an international level. Surprisingly, both Telugu-speaking states have also overlooked honoring him. The mindset within Tollywood appears to be largely profit-driven, reflecting Ayn Rand’s philosophy of objectivism. Rajamouli’s projects have always showcased the talent of indigenous Telugu actors, and he’s responsible for significantly boosting the remunerations of both actors and technicians—something unheard of in Tollywood’s history until his vision led to films grossing over 1,000 crore. It’s high time Tollywood shows its gratitude to Rajamouli by organizing a nationwide event to honor his contributions.
