Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has launched a bold demolition drive to reclaim lands around lakes, ponds, and other water bodies that have been illegally occupied by encroachers, including real estate developers, celebrities, and political figures. HYDRAA had demolished nearly 170 structures and recovered 45 acres of water bodies throughout Hyderabad. This crackdown has caused significant concern among those who have blatantly disregarded lake protection regulations, erecting various constructions ranging from sleek public facilities to makeshift homes for the underprivileged. Encroachers, often referred to as “land sharks,” are particularly active during the summer months when water levels drop, as they block inflows to reduce the size of these water bodies. Well-known facts indicate that Hyderabad’s lakes have drastically shrunk by a significant percentage. The notices came after CM Revanth Reddy threatened to demolish any construction—including those done by members of his own family—that did not comply with buffer zone and Full Tank Level (FTL) standards.

In response to charges made by opposition BJP leaders that the government was single-handedly destroying assets belonging to political rivals, the chief minister took a tough stand.

During a news conference on Sunday, former BRS minister Harish Rao said that the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HYDRAA) was being exploited as a platform for political vengeance. Palla Rajeshwar Reddy, a BRS MLA who has antagonized Anurag educational institutions for allegedly

annexing land across a lake in Ghatkesar, a satellite town of Hyderabad, accompanied him.It sounds like a political leader, possibly a chief minister, responded to accusations during a Janmashtami event by referencing the teachings of Krishna from the Bhagavad Gita. Revanth, likely referring to the leader, mentioned that his mission to save water bodies is inspired by these teachings.

This implies that the leader is using a religious and cultural event to both address political challenges and emphasize their commitment to environmental causes, drawing on revered texts to justify their actions. This approach might be aimed at connecting with the public on a deeper, spiritual level while addressing contemporary issues.                                                            By.Prakash Surya
