On Tuesday, Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy gave police officials instructions to require filmmakers, when they approach the government for permission to shoot or increase ticket prices, to submit a video to the state government, not more than two minutes in length, to raise awareness against drug abuse and cyber-crime.
Filmmakers from Telugu states frequently approach the state government to request action to raise ticket rates for a week or so following the film’s premiere. The Chief Minister claimed that the powerful members of the Telugu film industry were failing in their social duty to spread awareness of the threat posed by drugs and cybercrime by asking the government for permission to hike ticket prices whenever a big-budget movie is released.
