Department of Paediatric surgery, Gandhi Hospital headed by Dr.K.Nagarjuna professor and HOD successfully performed LAPAROSCOPIC BILATERAL ADRENALECTOMY for a case of bilateral PHEOCHROMOCYTOMA in a 11 year old female child (IP no:17473) on date 04/04/2024 .
Sandhya, 11 yrs Old child resident of Nanded, presented to Gandhi hospital with uncontrolled hypertension, headache, giddiness,sweating,vomiting .on CT scan diagnosed to have Bilateral adrenal pheochromocytoma.
Pheochromocytoma is uncommon tumour of childhood arising from Adrenal medulla.Incidence is approximately 1 in 5,00,000 children.Approximately 10% of pheochromocytoma are familial.Incidence of Bilateral pheochromocytoma in children less thn 10%.In children with pheochromocytoma hypertension is sustained upto 70% to 90%.In this case the patient mother and patient’s maternal side aunt and uncle and grandfather had same diagnosis.
The case is highly challenging as it is bilateral,child with sustained hypertension and more important technically in doing laparoscopic bilateral adrenalectomy ,especially right side and that too in clipping the right adrenal vein. successfully Laparoscopically excised tumour bilaterally and patient’s blood pressure was maintained under normal range throughout proceedure and after proceedure.

The surgery was successful with the support of our Medical Superintendent Dr.M.Raja Rao and administrative staff of Gandhi Hospital.
